Lithium batteries for ebikes, range, charging time and other details explained

Feb 21, 2022

Cyrusher utilizes high-quality lithium batteries for all its electric bikes. All batteries in our ebikes are made using top brand cells such as LG, Panasonic, Samsung. Depending on the bike model, some are hidden inside the frame or externally attached to the frame, in either case, all of them are removable, allowing to take it inside doors to charge, or simply connect the cable and charge while mounted into the bike.

Unique Serial Number Keys

Cyrusher batteries come with unique keys that allow you to attach/detach the battery.

Each battery comes with a unique key to secure the battery into the frame to avoid it falling while you ride and allow remove it from the frame to charge indoors. Every key comes with a unique serial number, If the key is lost, you can get a replacement from Cyrusher by providing its serial number.

Removable

The battery can be removed for indoor charging. Charging takes 4-6 hours.

All Cyrusher batteries, hidden batteries or external batteries, are removable. To remove, use the provided key to unlock, then remove to charge indoors. Full charging usually ranges from 4 to 6 hours depending on the battery capacity and weather conditions. Another advantage of removable batteries is allowing them to store in warmer places during cold weather.

Battery Components

The battery cells are encased in several layers and connected to the computer and other parts.

The main component of a battery is the battery cells. Cyrusher uses only battery cells from top brands such as Samsung, LG, Panasonic, to provide safety and maximum durability. Each cell is carefully tested and mounted into its supporting case then enclosed into external casings for protection and connected through a base to all parts that need power such as the motor, the lamp, brakes, and of course, the bike computer.

Waterproof, Dustproof

Cyrusher batteries are Waterproof IP65, which means low resistance to water. These devices are not fully waterproof but can bear low-pressure water such as rain etc. It is not possible to submerge them in water even for a little time as there is a risk of losing the product. Although is supposed to bear light rain, it is suggested to find cover as soon as possible to avoid any risk with the battery and another electronic component.

On the other hand, these devices are fully dustproof and no solid object can go inside and damage it. You can use them in a place where is too much dirt.

In short, all devices with IP65 Rating are water-resistant but not waterproof and fully dustproof.

Distance Range and Charging Time

The distance you can ride your ebike with a single charge varies by model and battery capacity. Below is a reference table for the main Cyrusher bike models.

Model Capacity Range Charging
XF650 48V 13Ah 50 miles 5-7 hours
XF690 48V 12.8Ah 50 miles 5-7 hours
XF800 48V 13Ah 50 miles 5-7 hours
XF900 48V 17Ah 62 miles 5-7 hours

For other models please check the bike category page.

Battery care

To maximize battery life, you want to avoid this scenario of fulling charging/discharging which reduces the lifespan of the battery, a good practice is to charge your battery to 85 percent and avoid discharging it to zero. If you’re storing the bike for a few months, a 40 to 70 percent charge is ideal.

Storage should also be done in a dry space between 45 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Switch the battery off when not riding it, and remove the battery from the bike if you will not ride it for long periods of time.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I ride in the rain? Is it waterproof?
The battery is waterproof IP65, which means is protected against water jets from any angle. Although it technically can bear light rain, is advised to find cover as soon as possible when rain starts, to avoid any risk and to protect other electronic components of the ebike.

  2. Can I use a battery that is not from Cyrusher?
We strongly recommend only using Cyrusher batteries, as we have carefully tested them and set the right parameters to work smoothly with the computer and other electronic components. Using a battery that is not from Cyrusher poses the risk of damaging the electronic components due to wrong wattage/voltage parameters, or battery fault, potentially voiding the warranty or in lesser cases, inconvenience waiting for replacement of any damaged part damaged by the faulty battery.

  3. How many times I can charge the battery?
You can charge it on average 800 times, which is about 2-3 years of riding the bike on daily basis.

  4. How far I can go?
It depends on the battery capacity. A 13Ah battery usually gives you a 50 miles range, a 17Ah battery gives you 62 miles. The distance you can cover also is affected by the weather, terrain inclination, speed, and usage of the throttle. Riding steep hills, in colder weather, at high speeds, or using the throttle a lot, consumes more power, therefore giving you less distance range.

  5. How long does it take to charge?
Average a full charge takes 4 hours to 6 hours, on extreme cases and higher capacity batteries, it can take 5-7 hours. In colder weather, it might take a longer time.

  6. Can I charge it directly when is mounted on the bike?
Absolutely yes. You can charge the battery while mounted into the frame by just plugging in the charging cable into the battery. For folding bike models, a charging port is available on the frame (see the related bike manual).

  7. Do I need to charge it the first time when I receive the bike?
The batteries come fully charged, however, due to shipping time or storage the charge may reduce. It is a good practice to put the battery to charge before you start assembling your bike, this way when you complete the assembly of your bike, your battery will have enough charge for your very first ride!

  8. Anything battery care needed for winter and cold weather?
During winter use in temperatures below 35°F (0°C) keep the battery stored and charged indoors at room temperature. Exposing the battery to low temperatures will shorten battery efficacy and result in total loss of function. For cold/snowy weather riding we recommend purchasing a thermal cover for the battery to protect the cells from potential freezing.
